Oh my gosh that was amazing. I wish they'd recorded studio versions of those songs. I mean I know Michael did "You've got a friend" on "Got to be there" but his maturer vocal version is amazing.
I know, Leanne. I wish they would have released a live album from their Vegas show.
I found this on YouTube shortly after he died and nearly had a nervous breakdown sobbing uncontrollably when he sang "You and Me Against The World" by Helen Reddy at the end. He looks straight into the camera and sings "And when one of us is gone, and one of us is left alone to carry on." By the way, it was Michael's improvisation to add the word "alone" making it EXTRA SOULFUL and heartwrenching, as if it needed to be anymore heartbreaking. I BEEN DONE had this on my iPod since 2009. Don't ask, I FOUND a way. :)That song came out when I was about 6 years old and I almost cried when Helen Reddy sang it. Never thought I'd hear Michael sing it, let alone after his death. Of course the ideal is that he would outlive all of us, after all he was the quintessential model of that kid on the block who could do anything, even outlive everybody and he was happy to show you how to do it, too.And let's not forget Marlon's vocals at the very beginning. I never heard him sing like that with such strong control and beauty. He is an absolute treasure to behold on this recording.By the way, this is a performance they did on "The Tonight Show". Freddie Prinz was substitute hosting for Johnny Carson. I'm pretty sure this is 1976 and they were promoting their upcomming TV Variety Show "The Jacksons".
RTT, I feel the same way about Michael singing "You and Me Against the World". It makes me tear up... :(
I think we spoke about this medley on the old vault. This shows how versatile Michael really was. There is so much potential good stuff out there, that it only needs someone with a bit of imagination and go in them to get this type of stuff offically released. Chris C
air date 21st June 1976. Tonight Show hosted by Freddie Prinze. the interview is great too. Michael talks about how much noise his peacocks make.
